About Geneva

Geneva at the Annapolis Powerboat Show

Loving wife to Ivan and mother to Debbi and Mike, devoted Christian, librarian, lover of music and nature — all these and more are facets of Geneva McGlauflin that have defined and enriched her life and made her beloved to others. She was born on December 7, 1930 — a day of the year which fatefully later became known as Pearl Harbor Day — but her name instead evokes her love of peace and harmony.

Marrying Ivan after meeting while they were both students at Gorham State Teachers College (now part of the Univ. of Maine) set Mom’s life on a course of being very involved in his YMCA career, which took the family from Maine to Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York in a series of happy though sometimes challenging moves related to Ivan’s work. Theirs was a life of making a home and a tradition of serving their church and community wherever they found themselves and of literally making beautiful music together. Many remember them for their lovely tenor-alto duets, or for Mom accompanying Dad on piano or organ when he sang a solo.

Geneva and Ivan spent five weeks in Japan visiting Debbi on their 25th wedding anniversary. After Ivan died, Geneva has continued to enjoy travels to England, Scotland, France, Austria, Bermuda, the Caribbean, California and Hawaii. She now lives in Annapolis, just a stone’s throw from Debbi and her husband Skip and less than an hour and a half from Mike and his family who live in Thurmont, MD (near Camp David).

Geneva is in very good health and is very active in her church on the library committee and women’s circle. She lives in a condominium in a marina/beach community and enormously enjoys life by the Bay. She’s very comfortable with email and surfing the Net and you can find her on Facebook. Not your typical 80-year-old!
